Leaders from the ruling dispensation predictably came out in support of Goswami, calling his arrest everything from a facist move to a sign of an undeclared Emergency. “We condemn this attack on press freedom in Maharashtra. This reminds us of the Emergency days,” said Prakash Javadekar. “Those in the free press who don’t stand up for Arnab, you are now tactically in support of facism,” chirped Smriti Irani. “It is a big blow to the principles of democracy and journalism,” bellowed JP Nadda. “This facist move is a sign of undeclared emergency,” muttered Piyush Goyal. “Arresting a journalist of the stature of Arnab Goswami by abuse of Police power, because he was asking questions, is something we all need to condemn,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Industrialist Harsh Goenka wrote, “Rhea Chakraborty was arrested without real proof for abetting suicide of Sushant thanks partly to relentless campaign by Arnab. It was WRONG! Arnab Goswami sent to 14 days judicial custody after arrest in alleged case of abetment to suicide

The court in Maharashtra's Alibaug on Wednesday evening remanded journalist Arnab Goswami to 14 days judicial custody after his arrest in the 2018 case alleging that he abetted the suicide of architect Anvay Naik.

Comedian Kunal Kamra, who was banned by various airlines after he accosted Goswami on an Indigo flight earlier this year, kept it brief and to the point. “Flight ban on Arnab for today,” he wrote.
But the tweet of the day was from Tehseen Poonawalla, who resurrected one of Goswami’s most famous recent outbursts: “The suddenness of the move... The unpredictability of the move… The fact that there was no warning...”
